Oranda Little Red Riding Hood
The fish belongs to the genus of crucian carp family. The genus of crucian carp consists of several species, one of which are goldfish. They are bred artificially in China. There are a lot of goldfish breeds, from simple to the most exotic. One of the species is oranda. Latin name Carassius gibelio forma auratus.
Oranda has a length of about 20-23 cm and a red growth that looks like a bunch of raspberries, therefore it is called raspberry-shaped. Little Red Riding Hood - a kind of oranda, in Japanese it is called "tancho", in translation "rising sun". This is a white fish with a raspberry growth on the head. Therefore, the breed is called "Oranda Little Red Riding Hood."
Little Red Riding Hoods eat everything: dry food, bloodworms, tubule makers, aquarium plants. Therefore, they easily gain weight. You need to feed a little so as not to overfeed the fish.
Maintenance and care
These fish, due to their large size, are kept in large spacious aquariums with mandatory purging, separate from other goldfish. Orands are slow and not as nimble as, for example, comets or telescopes, and cannot compete with them. Water in the aquarium should have a hardness (gH) of 6 to 18, acidity (pH) - 7, a temperature of 14-25 ° C.
The fish can live in a large cold-water aquarium and in the south, even in an open ornamental pond. In a cramped dwelling near Red Riding Hood, the metabolism worsens, it becomes inactive and falls ill. She needs a lot of light, filtration and a constant change of water. The bottom should consist of pebbles, without the presence of sand, as fish like to dig their nose in search of food. You can’t decorate the aquarium with anything sharp; magnificent fins will be damaged.
These creatures, the mysterious beauty of which recalls the exotic palaces of the Chinese rulers. In our apartments, they seem alien, torn from their habitat. These fish are kept by people living in beautiful expensive cottages with a luxurious design and a huge aquarium. Red Riding Hoods will also be in their place in the rich hall of a prestigious company.
Breeding this breed is difficult. The fry have yellow caps. The breeders make them red by injecting special paint into the fish.
