Koi carp are decorative subspecies of common carp that have undergone selective selection.
Currently, there are approximately 80 species of koi carps, which vary in color and pattern.
The main colors are white, yellow, red, cream, blue, black and orange; most species lack metallic reflections.
It is recommended to feed carps in small portions twice a day with a special food for this species of fish, although carps are omnivores and even eat watermelon. Dry shrimp, algae and daphnia can help keep koi carp bright in their colors, and sunshine lamps can also help.
Maintenance and care
Koi carps grow up to 45 cm, however, if they do not have enough space for growth and development, they will represent full and dull sluggish specimens. It is necessary to take into account in this case that for each individual approximately 300 liters of water are required, and the minimum depth is 1, 2 meters.
If the fish are healthy and have reached puberty, spawning in carps begins with an increase in temperature in early summer. An adult can eat fry and caviar, therefore it is recommended to place caviar in a separate aquarium.
